In September 2019, we began meeting as a group of 3-4 friends that were Christians and disc golfers and seeking a way that we could use our God given passion for disc golf for His glory.
So, we prayed and decided on a format where we’d meet weekly on Saturday mornings; we decided we’d conduct a short devotion before the beginning of the round, take prayer requests, and then play and fellowship together.
Even in the beginning with the handful of players, the ministry, the logo & brand, the bag tags, trophies, apparel, etc. that you see now was a staple early on because we felt deep down in our hearts that God was moving us and guiding us towards something bigger and building a community.
In January 2020, we began meeting and playing again with maybe 4-6 people and stayed at around that number until we took a few months off in late Spring due to COVID-19. We began praying and planning in late May and early June 2020 for God to move and show us the next steps.
Careful what you ask for, because God started working as He always does. Our first return meeting in late May 2020 following the break brought in approximately 8 people, then the next week, double, and then the week after that double the previous week’s numbers until we started averaging between 20-30 people weekly.
From that point on, we’ve entered into a rhythm of weekly play, multiple tournaments throughout the year, and a whole host of events that we are a part of.
In 2023 and beyond, we are prayerfully on the pathway to becoming a 501(c)(3) and will be continuing to expand through chapters locally, regionally, and nationally; however, we will still have a solidified missional focus and be one consolidated ministry and brand that is passionate about disc golf, discipleship, and Christian fellowship.
Is God stirring in your heart a desire to use your passion for disc golf, discipleship, and Christian fellowship for the Great Commission as well? If so and you are interested in starting a Discin’ Disciples chapter in your local area, then go here to complete a new chapter application today!
God Bless!
